HONG KONG/VIENTIANE - After the commissioning of the 1,035-km China-Laos Railway in 2021, cross-border freight services have become a key feature in this landmark project of the Belt and Road Initiative.

Vientiane South Station is the largest freight station on the Lao section of the China-Laos Railway. As the largest distribution center of commodities for local railways, the station undertook the transportation of about 80 percent of imports and 30 percent of exports on the section.

As of June 19, a total of 2.63 million tons of goods were sent, an increase of 31.9 percent year-on-year, with a daily average of 15,393 tons and a maximum of 22,217 tons per day.
