MACAO – A lion dance competition began on Saturday to mark the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th anniversary of Macao's return to the motherland.

Titled "11th International Lion Dance Championship 2024 – MGM Cup" and organized by MGM and Dragon & Lion Dance Federation of Asia, the event is taking place at Barra Square, in front of the A-Ma Temple.

Twenty-one lion dance troupes from 13 countries and regions are taking part in four contests over two days – “Freestyle Lion Dance Championship”, “Women’s Traditional Lion Dance Championship”, “Youth Traditional Lion Dance Championship” and “Junior Traditional Lion Dance Championship”.
