President Xi meets incoming Macao Chief Executive Sam Hou-fai

BEIJING – President Xi Jinping met Sam Hou-fai, the newly-elected chief executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region, in the Chinese capital, Beijing, on Friday.

On Oct 25, China's State Council on Friday appointed Sam as the sixth-term chief executive of Macao in accordance with the Basic Law of the SAR.

His tenure will start from Dec 20, 2024, according to a decision made at a State Council meeting presided over by Premier Li Qiang.

In the SAR's sixth-term chief executive election on Oct 13, the former top judge received 394 valid votes in his favor. The total number of registered election committee members was 400, with 398 members casting votes.

The Macao SAR Official Gazette, on Oct 21, published an announcement from the Court of Final Appeal regarding the results, confirming the overall results and the elected candidate as Sam Hou Fai.
