The Shenzhen border control authority is bracing for a surge in cross-border passenger traffic this weekend with the Mid-Autumn Festival falling on Tuesday, according to Shenzhen Commercial Daily.

Due to the mainland's "tiaoxiu" or adjusted rest arrangement, Saturday will be designated a working day, allowing the public to enjoy a three-day holiday from Sunday to Tuesday. Hong Kong’s public holiday will fall on Wednesday, the day after the Mid-Autumn Festival. This extended break is expected to drive activities such as shopping, dining, travel, and family reunions.

The Shenzhen General Station of Exit and Entry Frontier Inspection projects an average of 760,000 passenger trips per day at the checkpoints between Shenzhen and Hong Kong during this period, with a peak of 880,000 passenger trips expected on Sunday.

The highest volume of incoming passengers is expected on Saturday, while Sunday may see the most outgoing traffic. Key checkpoints — Luohu, Futian, and Shenzhen Bay — are projected to handle 200,000, 170,000, and 120,000 incoming passengers daily, respectively.
