Chinese shares close higher Wednesday

BEIJING - Chinese stocks closed higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.49 percent to 2,717.28 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.11 percent higher at 7,992.25 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 479.3 billion yuan (about $67.6 billion), down from 524.7 billion yuan recorded on the previous trading day.

Shares related to the lithography machine sector led the gains, while the cloud gaming industry suffered major losses.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.11 percent to close at 1,533.47 points Wednesday.
