Flowers and cypresses: Places to capture autumn colors in Shenzhen
By Wang Zhan

Shenzhen, known for its bustling metropolitan landscape, offers a surprising array of autumn-hued delights that are worth exploring. While the city may not be home to the typical fall foliage found in temperate regions, it boasts its own unique flora that dazzles during the changing seasons.

After the vibrant blooms of silk floss trees and bougainvillea exhibitions, another set of Instagram-worthy locations have emerged.

At the heart of the city, the 3,000-square-meter Community Flower Field (市民花田) near the Shenzhen Civic Center bursts with a fresh batch of flowers supplied by a Wuhan agricultural technology institute.

Bald Cypresses in ‘Maillard style’

The golden hues of red and brown of bald cypresses have started to tinge as autumn deepens. Honghualing Park (红花岭公园) and Longtan Park (龙潭公园) in Longgang District are among prime spots to capture the "Maillard-style" foliage of these striking trees.

China roses and seaside sunset

Aside from the groves of blossoming China roses near the gate, Qianhai Rock Park is also hosting a giant inflated Nailong (baby dinosaur) – a popular cartoon character. Weather permitting, the seaside park offers stunning views of the sunset.
